“That’s gross, Bear.”
“I didn’t bring it in. Teddy did. But I plan to steal it.”
Now that the ground is soft and damp after several days of rain, Bear is digging again. This is good and bad. It means the meds are relieving the pain in her shoulder AND it means there are more holes out there, but I’d rather have her dig than be crippled up and in pain. As Tabby T. Cat (RIP) used to remind Dusty T. Dog (RIP) dogs bury bones. Lacking bones to chew, Bear buries her rawhide.
When the rawhides are the RIGHT texture, either she or Teddy brings them back inside to savor, deriving the maximum enjoyment. They are slimy, covered with dirt, and if they’re the rawhide pencil type of rawhide, unwound. The big ones, the stout flat ones, don’t usually make it back inside. I don’t know why.
Example… “This one’s PERFECT!” “Get your own, Teddy.”
I think they are a great metaphor for these days. Slimy, covered with dirt and unwound.
For those of you needing a Scarlet Emperor Bean update…

Yum! Beans for dinner!
❤
Tasty treats or tarnished trophies? X
Maybe both. 🙂
😊
The slimier the better?
Apparently. She likes them when they are totally covered in dirt and unrolled completely. 😀
If that beanstalk gets too much bigger, one of these days you may discover someone named Jack in your yard. Wow!
Slimy must be delicious in dog-speak. Reminds me of my son’s dog who recently spent quite a bit of time trying to bury his rawhide in his (very plush looking) dog bed. Round and round he went in the bed nudging around for a space to hide it. Finally he took it outside and buried it in their tiny backyard. I think the pandemic was getting to him and perhaps he forgot for a moment where the burying place is!
I think dogs like to keep that stuff close. Bear digs holes, puts her rawhide in it, and lays down on top of it.
I think what will happen with my beans is that the beans will get so high up that I can’t harvest them without a ladder. I just hope there’s no giant up there.
I hope not too! Be careful up there 🙂
Oh those two! Ophelia wants to know if they dig them up and then bury them again She said “you can never be too careful hiding things from the woozles!”
“Hi Ophelia. I move them around all the time to keep them from Teddy, and when I make a better hole. I agree you can’t be too careful! Teddy still steals them, but I take them back most of the time. Sometimes Martha takes them in the house and washes them! What blasphemy” Your pal, Polar Bear Yeti T. Dog
“Mothers just don’t get it…” Ophelia nodding her head.

Who knows what goes through the minds of our animals?
If you ever figure out why yours like their treats slimy and gross, maybe you can come diagnose my weirdo cat, whose favorite treat is to crawl under a dresser and eat the dustbunnies and cobwebs.
Whoa. That’s bizarre…
Like the husband has always said, “he might be a little weirdo cat, but he’s definitely your little weirdo.”
Right? They’re all weirdos. I just spent twenty minutes on the bed in the spare room where there’s a loud fan with both my dogs. When there’s a storm, they think there’s no thunder in that room. Maybe they’re not the only weirdos…
Rotting rawhide? Yum!!! My late Bernese Rex would specifically find the foulest smelling rotting rodent corpse to chow down on if I let him. Maybe it is a way to predigest food.
I’m sure it makes it nice and soft. Probably a little rank, too.
Bear is reminding me of how Maia would bury a bone in the yard, then nervously guard it from Meadow, trying to act nonchalant but totally failing, just stressing herself out. Watching this, I would dig up the bone and – after showing it to both dogs – pitch it over the fence into the field so Maia could relax. Now, when I give Finn and Conall marrow bones, they get pitched into the field as soon as they’re done. No burying, no guarding.
Rawhide-type treats don’t last longer than five minutes in this household, so burying them is (thankfully) never an issue!
“Bear, everything tastes better with a little dirt.” ~Conall.
“Thank you for understanding, Conall!” Your pal, Polar Bear Yeti T. Dog
The silence of the beans
Tu Fu wanted to include something but it really wasn’t a bean post and all of his poems were depressing…
I’m glad the canines are doing what dogs tend to do! Now the beans are magnificent! Are you sure that isn’t from a magic bean that will grow all the way to a giant’s castle in the ski??
I’m sure they ARE magic beans!
I’m definitely cover in dirt and unwound, but I draw the line at slimy.
The babies look so happy to have the rawhide… cuteness unlimited!
That’s what they are!!! ❤ Thanks for stopping by.
